Company

This is old news, but my return to the game has had a bit of a ripple effect.

Both Tiz and Kat are now back to Runescaping, which is awesome because I could use the extra company. I played two rounds of Stealing Creation and also spent half an hour F2P Clan Warring with them. Tiz also gave Kat some pointers about Dungeoneering, which she hadn't gotten round to trying out until today. However, it'll be a while before she reaches a suitable level for the three of us to raid rooms together, so I still have to group up with strangers for the time being.

Lately, I've toyed with the idea of searching either Google or the RS forums for a Dungeoneering clan. I have no idea about the extent of their prevalence as my long-term absence from the game has made me ignorant about the latest trends in Runescape, but I would be very much surprised if there aren't already at least a handful of players out there who have banded together to form such a specialist clan. It would certainly be a chance to meet new people which is certainly welcomed, as I have begun to grow tired of my isolated playing style.

Anyway, I haven't been as active as I had liked to be during these past few days. While I wish to ascribe this to diligence and self-restraint on my part because I have big exams to prepare for back in the real world, the truth is that my inactivity is owed mostly to crappy Internet connection recently. Dungeon raids become more frustrating and far less enjoyable with lag.

Makeover

Discovered yesterday that Thessalia in Varrock had added several new selections to her store months earlier while browsing through one of Merch Gwyar's old posts.

Though I've always been pleased with my default clothing, I decided to make a trip down to her shop to look through the new additions. The variety took me by surprise; discounting the numerous different shades of new colours the outfits came in, Thessalia had doubled her selection.

A cursory glance through the list made me realise that the new sets of clothing each followed a skill theme, which I thought was a nice touch. I was tempted to stay true to my favourite skill and get the Farmer's set, but ended up picking the Missionary's Tunic (Prayer) and the Runecrafter's Sarong (Runecrafting, obviously) because I felt they were a lot more elegant.

I also switched from the original black my clothes came in to Abyssal Black, though admittedly I have trouble telling the difference. I have to say, the guys at Jagex really got creative during the naming of the 199 new colours...

Love Story

Busied myself today mostly with Dungeoneering and the Love Story quest.

I thought the contrast looked pretty cool.

I had actually meant to work on the quest as early back as June, when I made my first re-appearance in the game, but ended up quiting before I could even start it. Although I still prefer Swan Song over its sequel, Love Story was still very much an excellent quest in its own right.

While Swan Song adopted a more serious tone characteristic of quests that place an emphasis on lore (in this case, the Wise Old Man's legacy), Love Story was noticeably sillier. Not that the label is without its merits, of course. A lot of humour was employed, mostly in the form of the NPCs and cut scenes poking fun at several aspects of the game.

The opening cut scene concerning the Wise Old Man's love affair with Zenevivia showed the two of them continuously circling and walking past one another in an awkward fashion, an obvious nod to the "Follow player X" option in the game. This was followed seconds later by yet another cut scene which depicted the Wise Old Man camping at a spot and performing High Alchemy, whilst Zenevivia used him as a human shield to "block" the Fire Giant she was Maging down. I'll admit I'm not usually fond of breaking the fourth wall, but watching the entire flashback sequence did make me smirk.

The final battle with Zenevivia was also fun. My only regret was not engaging in the fight with my Red Partyhat equipped (to complement the Wise Old Man's attire), but given the battle mage's high combat level of 246 and the laggy Internet connection at the time, I had thought it a frivolous risk.

The Wise Old Man and Zenevivia going toe to toe with Grayzag and
Sedridor.

The rewards were great too. I was treated to a final cut scene of the couple trying to rob the Wizards' Tower, and was later given a large exp reward in Construction, Magic, Crafting and Smithing.

The quest's final attempt to poke fun at the game. I only wish it
hadn't been done at my expense...

Re-Revial

Okay, so I'm back. Again.

What started our as an innocent hour-long appearance to complete this year's Halloween event eventually convinced me to jump out of Runescape retirement.

Anyway, I just read the opening paragraph of my latest post from months ago and am downright embarrassed. To clarify, I've decided to start playing once more because I missed both the game and writing about it. I keep an RL blog as well (that's also been abandoned), but for the most part, this site's my only outlet for actual recreational writing.

I have no idea whether I'll be staying for the long term or whether my interest in RS will inexplicably fizzle out like in July. I also don't know whether or not I'll resume blogging at my usual frequency of a new entry every other day. Time is tight back in the real world for both clocking hours in the game and then writing about them; unfortunately, I had chosen a really bad time to start playing again due to the arrival of my A-Level examinations.

I'll probably be spending what little time I have online Dungeoneering and attempting to complete any quests that were release during my absence. Can't wait to see what the new Void Knight series is all about.

And finally as a side note, I realise that this is a little late, but please ignore any messages made under my name in the site's chatbox from July onwards. For reasons completely unfathomable to me, someone thought it amusing to impersonate me during my spell of inactivity.
