My Results Are Back!

I finally got back all of my common test results today. On the whole, although there were quite a few improvments in terms of marks/ranks, I was still a little disappointed with my overall performance. Anyway, I've listed below the grades I got for each subject plus some comments to go along with them. Please take note that I took no English or Chinese common tests so those two sudjects are excluded from the post.

Additional Mathematics --- 67.5 --- B3
It was a tough paper, I was half-expecting a mediocre grade. I was still hoping for an A1 though.

Elementary Mathematics --- 67.5 ---B3
Another average grade. I was expecting a lot more (perhaps a high A1?) from this paper though since I had found it pretty easy.

Biology --- 72.5 --- A2
I was expecting a high A1 for this subject, but I clearly fell short of the target. Still managed to come in 2nd in class though, although its performance was pathetic compared to this other class's next door. Either the marking or the teaching styles of one of the Bio teachers is to be blamed for this stark contrast of grades. Both classes were more or less of equal ability!

Chemistry --- 85 --- A1
Topped the class, got a fairly high A1, but then again, this was a simple paper. I'm aiming even higher next time! Top in level might be a possibility!

Physics --- 75 --- A1
I scraped through with an A1 and am pleased with my improvement. I hope to maintain this grade throughout the whole year.

Literature/Social Studies --- 65 --- B3
Two subjects rolled into one paper. Did fairly well for Lit, screwed up Social Studies. I have a lot of potential for these two subjects, a B3 simply isn't enough. Gonna work towards that A1 for next term.

History --- 65 --- B3
A thoroughly disappointing score. I had studied so hard for this paper, all those historical facts were at my fingertips, yet I somehow screwed up the essay structure of my answer which costed me quite a few marks. I have to do better next term; I'm getting that A1 or else!

And, umm, yeah that's about it. With these tests over and done with, I can finally get back to talking about Runescape. I've been going off-topic quite often lately, and my posts look a little plain now without those screenshots. Really sorry about that; I should have plenty to display after this week's update is released (which is rather late since it's already Wednesday).

Enrichment Day

Woohoo! The school organised several programmes today (dubbed "Enrichment Day") for students to choose and take part in, and I had a fantastic time going through the one I had selected.

I had picked digital Manga art, one of my interests besides Runescape (yes, I have other interests aside from the game!). I didn't get to learn how to draw, however, I was taught how to properly colour and "clean up" some digital Manga drawings using Photoshop. It was tedious work, but I managed to gain quite a bit from this little crash course. The teacher in charge even allowed us use the Net to play online games after we were done with our drawings (or colourings, rather), and this of course, meant more time for Runescape!

Nothing out of the norm happened in RS though, so I'll end the post here.

You Have Served Me Well, Dear Friend

I felt like crying when I tried using my old computer today to get some printing done. The state it was in, its speed... It was just dreadful, absolutely dreadful.

Today, we weep over the loss of my old computer.
Rest in peace, my friend.

My dad had some trouble installing this program in the new computer he had bought last year, in late December. He decided to let me have the new PC in exchange for the one I was then using. I accepted his generous offer, and it's now been less than two months since my dad has been using "my" computer.

However despite this short period of time, I am really shocked at its current condition. The screen has this annoying blue tint, its access to the Internet has long been stripped away and simple applications such as Microsoft Word now take up to 3-5 minutes to load!

Really now, it wasn't as if it was a dinosaur or anything. That piece of fine machinery had served me for only about a year and a half prior to the exchange; and it certainly was still functioning satisfactorily save the occasional lag. I took great care of it; it was defragmented every week, I was sure to keep the downloading of large files to a minimum, I had up to three Anti-Virus programs installed... I can't believe it took a mere two months for it to be damaged this badly.

I can still easily play Runescape as well as complete my homework with the computer I am currently using, but admittedly, I have placed quite a bit of sentimental value on the one I used to use.

It had tended to my Runescaping needs all this time after all... Oh man, I feel absolutely terrible right now.

A Gamer's Woes

My teachers seem determined to keep me busy even after the common tests. Can't say I'm not annoyed with this; although admittedly, I've yet to start on much of the school work.

Whole day was mostly spent smithing cannonballs as usual, in fact, I even managed to reach level 82. I was also able to manage a few trades and sell off most of my Ranarr Weeds. In order for potential traders to contact me, I had to leave my private chat on, and this had the unfortunate effect of allowing some of the more annoying players to send messages to me.

I now am able to smith Adamantite Kite Shields!

Some beggar I met a while ago pmed me asking if I could make Rune armour, a friend announced a string of level ups she had successfully reached which I really couldn't give a damn about, while another wanted me to switch servers, and teleport to her location just to show her my Fishing cape. This other guy at the furnace, where I was smithing, was also being an exceptional pain. He kept asking for free stuff!

I was really irritated - I couldn't even properly relax and de-stress while playing.

For now, I think I'll just seek some solitude by re-reading one of my Harry Potter books. Beats having to deal with a server full of noobs. Hmm, I hope J. K. Rowling releases her 7th book soon...

The Tower of Life

Alright, here are a few updates in the real world. First of all, regarding the scambaiting thing, I have been keeping my word so far. Whilist I had promised that I'd stop conversing with the scammers, this did not stop me from accepting John's calls, but not talk.

He's called around 10 bloody times so far, and I responded by recording as many of his "Hello? Hello? Are you there, Mr xxxx?" messages before he hung up. As for my test results; it's been over a week since I've taken them and so far, I've yet to receive my History and Social Studies grades. Chances are, I'll have to wait until next week to find out, which means that it'll be another few days before I will display all my results in the blog.

With that said, I will now proceed to the more RS-oriented stuff. As mentioned in my previous post, I was able to complete the new quest, The Tower of Life. Didn't have much of a backstory to it, it was pretty much just about three Alchemists hiring builders to build this tower. Halfway through the building's construction, the builders refused to continue working for some reason which I can't quite recall.

The Homunculus (white thing) giving the three Alchemists a bit of a
scare.

As always, it was up to my character to save the day, so I assisted the Alchemists in constructing the rest of the tower. After its completion, the Alchemists did some mumbo-jumbo magic thing at the top of the tower, and created this creature called the Homunculus. It was confused, as well as pissed, and tried smashing out of its cage. The Alchemists scurried out of the tower and pleaded with me to talk to the creature. After explaining and answering a few of the Homunculus' queries, it then left its cage and made the Alchemists promise to never fiddle with that kind of magic again.

The Tower of Life's Dungeon.

The Homunculus then decided to reside in the tower's dungeon, the area where the Alchemists did their research in, prior to its creation. Apparently, the Alchemists had previously discovered some substance which contained traces of the god, Guthix's power, and had used it to create the Homunculus. A pretty interesting idea there, I just wish the quest had a better reward.

Goodbye To Scambaiting

Long post ahead! - You have been warned...

Well, the holidays have ended on a bitter-sweet note.

Sweet because I:
1. Finally reached Lvl 95 Farming
2. Completed (and enjoyed doing) the new quest, The Tower of Life
3. Finished up most of my homework (whew, glad I got that off my chest)

As for the bitter part, well... I guess I really have to blame my parents for that one. About two weeks ago, I decided to try out scambaiting (see my 9 February post), which is actually an Internet sport of making a fool out of scammers on the net.

I successfully baited this lady who was supposedly dying of breast cancer. She gave me a load of bull shit regarding some family inheritance she wanted to transfer to me, and having only 6 months to live.

She later introduced John buki, her lawyer, to me. Shortly after that, John made it known to me that I required a certificate which confirmed that I was breast cancer lady's next of kin, in order to be able to collect the inheritance. Some other documents were also required, but I won't go into those. Anyway the point was, I needed $1650 to pay for all that shit.

John got a little impatient with my delayed emails (my way of pissing them off, really), and requested for my phone number. I gave it to him, and barely a few hours later, bam! I get a call straight from Africa (that's where most scammers originate from). John then proceeded to asking me for the money, and I, speaking in a slightly Brit accent, told him that I'd transfer it to him by the following day.

My mom heard our conversation, and didn't seem to mind. It was only a while later, when she told my dad, that things really started to get out of hand. My parents disapproved of my engagement with those criminals. They were afraid that the scammer(s) would trace the call back to my address, come over, and screw me. I guess their argument was pretty valid; it was quite rash of me to disclose my number.

What I couldn't stand though, was the fact that they forbade me to scambait even through email. I asked them about the possibilities of scammers being able to trace my fake email address back to me. All I got was a warning of the dangers I face if I met one of those scammers in real-life (that didn't answer my question...). In the end, whenever I asked about scammers being able to kill me just by finding out a fake email address, the argument just fell back to me giving away my phone number.

Fact was, my parents did not want me to scambait at all, but had no way of properly rebutting my reasonable compromise. There really wasn't any danger involved just by contacting them through email, but both mom and dad, with their limited knowledge of the virtual world, did not realise this (they didn't even know the definition of the word "scam" before I explained its meaning to them). They also insisted on keeping their pride.

Instead of the "We are not very experienced in the Internet even if you are, but to ease our worries, we would like you to stop scambaiting" message I had hoped to receive, I got more of a "We are adults, and therefore, are right about the dangers of emailing even without any of the personal information" kind of message. I just hated the way they were trying to prove me wrong, instead of just admitting their worries and requesting that I'd respect their feelings and put a stop to their anxiety.

The argument continued, but I knew I couldn't possibly change their minds, so I gave in and agreed to stop scambaiting. Definitely wasn't too pleased in the outcome, although my parents clearly were (must be a great ego boost knowing that you're both ultimately still in control).

My mom even went as far as to remark "you will agree with us when you are older" as I was about to return to my room. Bah, sorry mummy, but the both of you are just infants in the cyber world, having fears based on ignorance instead of hard, solid facts. I'll take this lying down for now, just don't take my patience for granted.

New Year Annoyances

I overslept again and ended up waking up sometime at 10.30 in the morning. I only had about an hour to play before I left for a family reunion lunch.

Although I came back home $38 richer, I can't say I really enjoyed it. I arrived at the restaurant about 2-3 minutes early, but we only got to eat almost an hour and a half later. A few members of the extended family had showed up rather late. The fact that the place was packed (there was a huge line of would-be diners waiting outside the restaurant!) and that the waiters/waitresses were really busy didn't improve the situation either.

So yeah, I was stuck there for almost 3 hours. Was pretty annoyed about that, but it's a petty issue and I'm back in front of my computer now, so no real harm done. It's all good. What I need to worry about now, however, is my homework.

Ironically, it was my Chinese teachers (three of them anyway) whom decided to give my class some assignments to do over the long break. Oddly enough, my History teacher, an Indian, was kind enough to spare me from these unnecessary worries (aww... Bless her, hope she has many rich, married Chinese friends).

Well, methinks it's time to get back onto my homework. A new quest has been released, but I think it's best if I talk about and complete it after I get my school work done.

Once again, I wish everyone a happy Chinky New Year. Enjoy the remaining holidays while they last!

New Year Celebrities

A great start to the Chinese New Year so far.

The extra time has allowed me to gain a significant amount of exp, and I've even managed to reach Lvl 81 Smithing (yesterday) and 77 Thieving. I am also very close to finally lvling Farming; I should be able to reach Lvl 95 by Tuesday.

I can now smith Adamantite Chainmails.

Also, to my greatest surprise, I actually met two famous Runescape players, Lilyuffie88 and Fredmcgarry, today.

Lilyuffie88 is known best for being one of Zezima's former top rivals. Unfortunately, she no longer actively plays and has really lagged behind in the Overall highscores. Fredmcgarry is one of the more recent stars. He made a name for himself about a couple of months after the Construction skill was released, when he became one of the highest ranked players in that stat. He has since secured the #1 spot.

A screenshot of Lilyuffie88. I was unable to take Fredmcgarry's picture
unfortunately.

It was definitely a treat meeting the two of them, and I am hoping that the rest of the holiday will be as amazing. Happy New Year, everyone!

Hurray! It's Over!

Fantastic news! I'm finally through with all those common tests, and I've got a good 4 and a half day weekend to look forward to!

I'm also happy to say that the last 3 papers I took (Elementary Maths, Biology and History) were pretty easy. I finished everything within the allocated timeframe, and I am pretty confident that I'll score well in these 3 subjects. I've also gotten back my Chemistry and Literature results, although I will only post them in the blog after I find out the rest of my grades.

The Sorceress' Garden, the newly released Thieving mini-game.

Well, I think that I've really been talking too much about my exams for the last few posts. I apologise for that; it's just that I have hardly anything to talk about in RS and the exams have really eaten into my gaming time. And today, unfortunately, is no different. I tried out the newly released mini-game; I hated it, and was back smithing cannonballs 10 minutes later.

Right now, I'm considering taking a break from Smithing after I have my next lvl up. I can't put up with it much longer since the rate of which I gain exp, whilist training this stat, is very slow. Fletching, Combat and Thieving are pretty good choices. Still have to decide which one to pick though.

Still Studying

The two papaers I sat for today were generally a huge improvment compared to yesterday's tests. I'm just laughing at the paper right now.

Because it was described by one of my school's Chem teachers as a simple paper, and since Chemistry's my best subject this year, you can no doubt imagine my ease of completing that test. Additional Mathematics, on the other hand, was more challenging. I ran out of time to finish up the last question and lost at least 7 marks in the process. The chances of that A1 I was hoping for are almost completely dashed, but I guess there's always next term.

Anyway, back to Runescape, a new minigame has been released just last night. I have yet to try it out since most of my gaming time was spent Smithing (less mentally taxing, don't forget, I still have more tests to study for!). I'll probably put off playing it until Thursday, the day I take my last paper.

Common Test Week

Ahh! The common tests for term 1 have started, and I've just taken my Physics, Social Studies and Literature paper today.

Admittedly, I can't say they went as well as I had hoped. I ran out of time and lost at least 4.5 marks for Physics; as for the other two tests, well... I just don't think that my answers were well written enough.

Lvl 80 Smithing at last!

On a lighter note, I'm doing quite well back in Runescape despite this stressful period. I recently reached Lvl 80 Smithing, and am now able to make Adamantite battleaxes. My Farming's also quite close to another lvl up; I should expect to reach 95 sometime next week. The holidays coming up (Chinese New Year) should give me more time to raise these two stats.

Scam the Scammers, Protect The Internet

Gosh, Internet scams are so common these days...

I came across this scambaiting (scambaiting is the "sport" of messing around with scammers and wasting their time) website just yesterday, which gave me quite a bit of info in screwing around with Internet scammers.

The website even has a forum, where members of this scambaiting community can gather and share their ideas. It also has an archive or "Trophy Room", containing pictures of scammers being manipulated to doing stupid poses or holding sign boards with degrading messages on them. It's a cool site, and I've even included it in the list of links in the blog. I recommend that you go check it out; in fact, I myself am a member (I registered yesterday).

In case you're not clear as to what Internet scams are, these scams appear in the form of an email telling the receipient about a get rich quick scheme. This "scheme" is of course fraudulent, and usually involves the victim giving up his/her bank details to the scammer. With this information, the scammer then proceeds to stealing his victim's money.

By scambaiting, or "baiting" the scammer, I will be able to both distract him from harming real victims, and if I'm lucky, I also will be able to receive a genuine degrading photo of the scammer, which I can keep as a "trophy".

This scambaiting thing is definitely worth it. If you've previously had problems with these cheats (both involving virtual money like the Runescape gp or with real-life currency), why not get back at some of them now by joining the site?

The link to the site is www.419eater.com. I look forward to your registration.

The Fremennik Isles

Just as I had hoped for, a new quest was released on Tuesday. I was half way through it yesterday, when I ran out of time, but I managed to finish it up this afternoon.

King Sorvott IV

The quest centered around two Fremennik (a race of warrior-barbarian like people) brothers, Mawnis Buwogar and Gjuki Sorvott, who have been banished from Rellekka by their father who grew tired of their many quarrels, fights and squabbles. They both sailed away and discovered two distant islands, which coincidentally, were right next to each other!

Neitiznot, the volcanic isle under the rule of Mawnis.

Despite finally settling down and ruling these two separate isles, their feud continued, and the two kingdoms were constantly at war. However, these two brothers now faced a new threat. As it turns out, the Ice Trolls which live in a cave nearby have made several raids and attacks on both isles; and this was where my character came in. It was up to me to reconcile the Fremennik brothers and eventually defeat the trolls.

During the initial stages of the quest, I learnt that Mawnis was training several "honour guards" for some invasion plan, and despite Gjuki's insistence that he was planning an attack on his land. I later found out that in reality, Mawnis was actually plotting a way to completely eradicate the trolls.

My character (wearing the black boots and cape) and Neitiznot's militia
fighting the trolls.

So after running around both islands, playing as a double agent and spying for both rulers, I decided to fight alongside Mawnor and was appointed "champion" of the kingdom of Neitiznot, the town which he ruled. I was to lead Neitiznot's militia to assault the Ice troll Cave, and nearly died doing so. However, in the end, I was able to slash my way through several Ice Trolls and finally behead their king.

Me dueling with the Ice troll King.

Reward was great too. It gave me a very generous amount of exp (about 40k) as well as quite a bit of cash. Jagex did very well this time.

My 100th Post

One of the deeper parts of Tarn's maze.

Woohoo! This is my 100th post!!! It's amazing that this blog managed to survive so long, just another 5 months and it'll be a year old. Hehe maybe by then, I would've reached 200...

Well anyway, I've finally slain Tarn Razorlor as I had promised a couple of days earlier. It was surprisingly fast reaching his chamber using a map. I entered the maze, got past the traps and monsters, killed Tarn and stole his diary, all within the time period of half an hour.

Tarn in his human form

Tarn in his Mutant form

Tarn in his Ghost form

As a reward for my effort, I obtained 5k Slayer experience and was able to increase the power of my Salve amulet using the stolen diary (in the diary, Tarn wrote that he had casted a special enchanting spell on the book). I also managed to take a few more screenshots (which are displayed in this post). The Diary is pictured below.

All that's left to do now is to wait for February's first update. I'm hoping that it'll be released by tomorrow evening.

A Quick Update...

Okay, just thought I'd fill you in on what has happened in the past few days/weeks.

First order of business, my clan has more of less been dissolved. A pity, but it was bound to happen eventually. It was just too inactive; in fact, back in December 2006, a few of its other members were even unsure whether it would last until New Year's day.

On a lighter note, a very detailed guide and map of Tarn Razorlor's Lair has finally been released by Tip It, so you can expect to see a post tomorrow, complete with screenshots, of me killing that zombified researcher.

The February BTS (Behind the Scenes) has also been displayed on the Runescape main page by Jagex two days ago, on Thursday night. I've taken a look at it, and seen some rather promising, peguinless, updates. Until they are released, I think I better get started on that mountain of school work piling up on my desk.

Drained

I'm really drained right now... A few of the lessons in school have just been too fast paced for me, and I don't have much time to go through them again at home because of all the homework. I've also got a couple of tests to look forward to tomorrow (and possibly, the results of the previous tests I took yesterday), and even bigger ones in a two weeks time.

I doubt that a weekend would be long enough for me to settle all this work and revision. What I need right now is a longer break, school is just too time consuming. All this studying had better pay off...
